Building dev-m: A stateless developer forge and community suite for Framework M

Business M is owned by CastleCraft, which leaves the Framework M Software Foundation with just the framework. Business applications and developer tools are two very different domains.

The Foundation's domain is software development. A framework needs a flagship product to prove what it can do and showcase the framework's capabilities. Building something developers actually use should be the goal.

What if there was a "frappe app"-style suite for git, issues, forum, and CI? We could keep adding modular apps as the project needs them. With LLMs and Framework M, you can practically print apps if you know your domain models and architecture.

We need a git forge and developer community platform that can:

  • Run completely stateless: no mounted persistent volumes or NFS for git repositories.
  • Scale horizontally across pods.
  • Keep state where it belongs: Redis, NATS, PostgreSQL, and S3/MinIO.
  • Support pluggable CI runners (Docker by default).
  • Support pluggable CI pipeline formats (.gitlab-ci.yml by default).
  • Provide clean macroservice app extensibility.
  • Coexist with Business M or any other Framework M app on the same desk.
  • Stay white-label friendly.
  • Showcase high-performance Rust (rusty-git) running directly inside the Python runtime via PyO3 without git subprocesses.

I am just having fun building these apps with my spare tokens. The community right now is just me and a few others, so we can migrate easily. My goal is to get this clean enough so we can move our entire foundation and community to our own self-hosted stack.

Repositories (Apache 2.0):

Edit: In a way it will be great! Only the gated real contributors will take effort to SSO into our forge/community. Bots cannot!
